New album has started. Finally found the direction I was looking for.

Here’s a sample track. Enjoy!

Inspiration comes and goes but when it arrives at my door I can’t seem to ignore it.

Tonight I worked on a track that may very well be the start of an entirely new direction for myself or a female vocalist I am working with named Dariana Ruiz. Her voice is incredibly beautiful and we’ve played around with a few demos but this is the first track I wrote that leaped out at me as a possible direction for her album.

Like I said, I don’t know where this is going to land but I sure as hell am confident in it.

For your listening pleasure, here it be:

So here I am writing my first real post on my first real website as a solo artist.

Goddamn did that feel good to type.

The new album I am offering as a free download is entitled WINTER IN MEDORA. It is my premier as an artist not part of a full group. I wasn’t planning on ever writing another album again but as fate would have it this one happened to fly out of me in just a few weeks. I recorded all the instrumentation myself with no producer or outside intervention.

Every one who has heard it so far has felt a connection with the lyrics as well as the music. I will never tell anyone what the real stories behind them are. That would be too much of an infringement on a time, place, and person I hold very dear to my heart.

This is the album I always wanted to make but was never able to face. In my previous bands, I loved and am STILL proud of the the music we made as groups but I never really got this close to opening up. I was hiding behind a leather jacket, an electric guitar, and a shit load of pedals. I finally hung it all up for this one and I honestly don’t know if I will ever write something so personal again.

As far as how I am going to use this website, I do not really know. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, though, since I am in the works for another EP and a full length album due in 2010.

This is the time when we as musicians can put out the albums we’ve always wanted to with no filters. That can sometimes produce spotty results, but I swear after writing and producing this first album completely on my own terms I feel so unbelievably confident with the results that I never want to stop.

I’m going to give my music away for free for as long as I possibly can. I just hope there are a few of you out there listening.

You can download the full album up top where it says FREE ALBUM.

All my best,
Dennis Cahlo
